Abstract

These recommendations outline nine basic points in order to design a practice in physiology focused on medical competencies. They emphasize transfer of learning as part of the process leading the student to develop clinical competencies. Also they shape a model of active and significative learning as a strategy in medical education to identify and efficiently address a problem in clinical medicine. Finally, they parallel scientific and clinical methods emphasizing the process upon the result as a hallmark in formative assessment, a critical counterpart in improving a program by medical competencies.
