Digital Preservation Policy

Digital preservation policy

The Journal Investigación en Educación Médica (Research in Medical Education) acknowledges that digital preservation refers to the set of principles, policies, rules, and strategies designed to ensure that a digital object will remain accessible, understandable, and usable throughout time and independently of technological developments. Reliability and exactitude are thereby ensured, and authenticity is verifiable.

Hence, we prioritize the development of open access (including documented open-source) documents whenever available. Within this scope, our Journal adheres to the XML SciELO Publishing Schema.

Investigación en Educación Médica builds upon reliable systems for managing and maintaining digital documents. To this end, we use the Open Journal Systems (OJS) Editorial Manager version 3.1.1.4, which is an open-source code compatible with the Open Archive Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PHM).

Furthermore, OJS is compatible with the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system, thus guaranteeing files' safety and preservation. LOCKSS is open-source code as well and it was developed by the Library from the University of Stanford. It allows libraries to preserve selected online journals by periodically archiving newly published content. Every fail is cross-referenced with other libraries' databases, thus ensuring the recoverability of information. For more information, visit the LOCKSS Manifest Page.

We also adopted DOI (Document Object Identifier) for assigning unique and durable identifiers to every published paper, also contributing to accessibility in the long term.
