Abstract

Introduction: Clinical simulation is a didactic tool widely used in the medical field, although its application in the field of forensic medicine is less explored.

Objective: This study aims to explore the perceptions and meanings that medical students attribute to clinical simulation in learning forensic medicine

Methods: Qualitative study with a phenomenological design in which 25 participants were interviewed. The interviews were conducted by the research team before and after the simulation exercise and after a pilot test with 3 participants, the data analysis was performed with the support of atlas.ti.

Results: The experience of students in clinical simulation around forensic medicine was crossed by two fundamental features: simulation for learning technical and non-technical skills in forensic medicine; and a symbiosis of emotions and feelings encountered before and after the simulation exercise.

Conclusions: The perceptions and meanings attributed by the students to clinical simulation in forensic medicine show its relevance as a training strategy to develop technical skills, especially in the development of interviews with victims of violence and the handling of evidentiary material, as well as socioemotional skills such as compassion and understanding of the role of forensic medicine.
