Abstract

Abstract: The National Board of Medical Examiners® is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 1915 whose mission is "to protect the health of people through an innovative assessment of health professionals."
In the early 1990s, the NBME undergraduate program, the USMLE, replaced the then existing Federation License Examination program (also known as the "FLEX" exams) and the NBME certification exams (also known as the "Part" exams).
