Abstract

The concept of teacher ‘‘academic freedom’’ has been around for several decades, but in recent times there has been controversy due to its inappropriate use. The present article aims to review aspects of teacher academic freedom in higher education, using some definitions and the regulations as regards this in Mexico and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. The aim of this brief review is to stimulate reflection and debate about the current validity of academic freedom in health professions education, and its educational implications.
